We often talk about the close bonds that students form at SuperCamp. Equally strong but less celebrated are the friendships that develop among staff members.
Many of our facilitators and team leaders return to SuperCamp year after year. They see each other at staff trainings every spring and look forward to spending each summer together at camp.
For this reason, our hearts broke when we heard the news that one of our most dedicated facilitators, Kelly Pozzoli, passed away on February 4, 2014, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Kelly’s Commitment to SuperCamp
Kelly joined the SuperCamp team in 2006. She already had experience using Quantum Learning methodologies in her elementary school classroom, so it was a natural next step to teach Quantum Learning to high school students during the summer.
Kelly excelled as a SuperCamp facilitator. In 2009 she became the lead facilitator at the University of Washington in Seattle, and the following year served as the lead facilitator at Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. She also traveled overseas to lead international SuperCamp programs.
In everything she did, Kelly embodied Quantum Learning’s commitment to students’ personal and academic growth. Kelly always went above and beyond in her role as a SuperCamp facilitator, and her passion and commitment inspired everyone she met.
Kelly’s Battle with Cancer
In December 2011, a little more than a year after her marriage, Kelly was diagnosed with cancer. Over the next two years, she bravely fought the disease, determined to overcome it and live a long and active life.
Even as she underwent chemotherapy and radiation, Kelly advocated for cancer awareness. She appeared on the Jeff Probst show as a recurring guest and documented her journey on her blog, One Big Exhale.
On February 4, 2014, Kelly ended her battle with cancer at the age of 33. She is deeply missed by her many friends at SuperCamp, and her life continues to inspire us.
In Honor of Kelly, a SuperCamp Scholarship
In honor of Kelly and her commitment to our students, SuperCamp is sponsoring a scholarship in partnership with On the Edge Productions. Kelly’s family will choose the scholarship recipient each year from our financial assistance applicants.
Kelly’s family has selected a 13-year old student from their area to attend SuperCamp 2014 on the Kelly Pozzoli Scholarship.
