No matter how long ago you learned them or where we are in the school year, it’s never too late to remember those study skills you learned at SuperCamp. Have a look at our ten tips list. You may be surprised at a couple you’ve forgotten to use—and they might just come in handy now.
- Start the school day with a positive attitude. And keep it with you all day! Tell yourself This Is It! and make the most of every moment. Walk into class with confidence—sit tall, take a deep breath, and get ready to learn.
- Let go of limiting beliefs. Instead of saying “I can’t” say “I can!” And believe it. Focus on what’s possible and how far you can go.
- Stay focused. Get into alpha state and keep your mind on the class. Put your whole self into it. Get curious about the subject. Use WIIFM—what’s in it for me? How does this information relate to my other classes? To what I’ve learned in the past? To me personally? And then as you get into the subject, come up with more questions to connect it to you personally.
- Use SLANT. Sit up, lean forward, ask questions, nod your head, and talk to the teacher.
- Mind map your notes during class. Remember to use lots of color, pictures and symbols. Review your mind map at study time.
- Use circuit learning to plan the week’s study schedule. Once you’re home from school on Monday, take a moment to plan out your week. Try to set up a consistent time for homework and be sure to include time for reviewing each previous day’s lessons.
- Use the Quantum Reading six-step process and race through your homework assignments. Prepare, get into state, use eye and hand skills, superscan, read, review. You’ll save time and increase your comprehension.
- Use your memory skills. Pegs, linking and storying are great ways to memorize history dates, geography, vocabulary words and other lists of information. These memory techniques cement the content in your mind and prepare you for that upcoming test.
- Think creatively. Use your creative thinking skills to problem-solve and make connections. These skills are especially helpful for challenging assignments like essays and science projects. Think bigger. Think different.
- Celebrate! Congratulate yourself for all you’ve learned today!
